Obverse: ELIZABETH II D G REG F D 2009 (Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith), fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, crowned with the girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, IRB below truncation for designer Ian Rank-Broadley. Reverse: The turning pages of a stylised book on the roof of a classical library building, MMD monogram to right for designer Mary Milner-Dickens. Mint State/Proof FDC.
First issued in 2000, this coin was issued in 2009 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the fifty pence. The piedfort coins of this series were each limited to a mintage of only 40 coins.
