Obverse: ELIZABETH II D G REG F D 2009 (Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith), fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, crowned with the girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, IRB below truncation for designer Ian Rank-Broadley. Reverse: Britannia seated facing right beside a lion, a shield rests against her right side, holding a trident in her right hand and an olive sprig in her left. By designer Christopher Ironside. Struck to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the fifty pence. The piedfort coins of this series were eachlimited to a mintage of only 40 coins.
